Amazon.com Product Description

Whether you're commuting to work or cruising around town, the Schwinn Crest urban men's hybrid bike offers a comfortably smooth ride. The Crest is outfitted with a 17-inch aluminum hybrid frame and an SR Suntour front suspension fork, helping the bike hold up to shocks from bumpy or rough terrain. The Shimano TX-31 rear derailleur and SRAM 21-speed grip shifters, meanwhile, give you a host of gear options for flat or hilly rides. And riders will love the 700cc rims and 700 x 38c hybrid tires, which are thinner than mountain bike tires but sturdier than most road bike options. Other features include an SR Suntour front derailleur, an alloy adjustable stem with a 30mm rise comfort bar, and alloy linear pull brakes.

I purchased this Schwinn partly because they seem to have maintained a long-standing reputation for quality and also because I loved mine when I was younger. I primarily wanted a relatively lightweight , solidly built frame and this bike has it. The 700c wheels seems rather popular for hybrid bikes and have been well -received by many commuters. This wheel does not have nearly as much drag as a mtb tire and more protection and gripping power than a thin road bike tire.

The bike comes nearly fully assembled and is well packaged, inside an inner and outer protective carton. Setting up the handlebars, pedals and seat were a snap.

The whole process took about 15 minutes.

The frame is painted a very nice black (So I'm told, It actually looks dark green to my eyes), though it isn't the same frame seen in the product photo (The down tube is much thicker on the bike I received). The saddle is very, very comfortable and the adjustable sprung aluminum stem is a... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Bike for the Money, July 6, 2009

My wife and I decided to purchase bikes to expand our exercise options. Neither of us had ridden in decades, but our son is an avid cyclist and he suggested we look at Hybrids. After looking at several options, we decided to purchase both a Men's and Women's version of this bike and we couldn't be happier. They're relatively lightweight and the components all appear to be of fairly high quality for a bike priced in this range.

The limited assembly was easy, although I must say the 1st one took me longer than the 15 minutes referenced by the original reviewer. Almost everything is adjustable for comfort, and like the original reviewer, we too took off the fenders and like the result. It would have been nice if Schwinn had included a couple of allen wrenches, and maybe a pouch to carry them in, since that is the tool most often needed for assembly and adjustments.

We have been riding for a couple of weeks now and really like the way the bikes handle. I'm a... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Good bike design...but perhaps wrong tube for the tires.., May 10, 2010

This review is from: Schwinn Crest Urban Men's Hybrid Bike (700c Wheels) (Sports)
I've been using this bike daily for a month. Commuting about 6 miles every day to and from work.

The first time the bike came, the back tire went flat after < a mile. I didn't bother to patch it. I ordered a new one and returned the defective one to Amazon.

The second one lasted until last week when the front tire went flat. I decided to replace it. Googling for 700 x 38c tires conversion table, I found that I need a 27'' tube and I bought a Schwinn tube from Amazon. When I was replacing the tires, I realized the old tubes were actually 26'' tubes from comparison with the 27'' tube I bought. Hmm..I'm thinking that's why the original tubes don't last at all since they are an inch smaller.

The bike is of good design and the frame is well built. I love this bike. I'm giving it one star less cause of the tube mix up. These days, given that everything is designed in U.S but made in China, manufacturing slips like this is common. However that's no excuse... Read more

My wife wears this jersey while we cycle in the summer. The long sleeves mean she doesn't need sunscreen on her arms and the turtleneck also protects a lot of her neck from the sun. An important feature that the makers of this jersey got RIGHT is that the sleeves are long enough to cover my wife's entire arm length from shoulder to wrist without exposing her wrists to the sun when her arms are stretched out to the handlebars... that's a RARE find, indeed! THANK YOU Canari for making a jersey that has proper arm length and does what it's supposed to!

3.0 out of 5 stars it's OK .... considering the price, September 23, 2011
This review is from: Pacific Cycle Men's Oceanside Bicycle (Charcoal & Red) (Sports)
For the $109 price I didn't expect much ... the components on the bike are the cheapest you can find. My other bikes are from bike shops and are kind of expensive. To compliment the expensive bikes I wanted a cheap bike(so cheap it is almost disposable) to ride the the market and the pub and if it got stolen I wouldn't cry. I could have built a dependable cheap cruiser but since i have two other project bikes in the garage I wanted to purchase one ready to go for cheeep. The Pacific Oceanside fits the bill almost. In college I used to work for a name brand bike MFG as an in store assembler and repair tech and have assembled hundreds upon hundreds of bikes of all types and price points so i have a fairly wide range of experience with all types of bikes. This one has some bright points and some not so good points. Pacific Bikes is part of the same company that now makes Schwinn, Mongoose, Roadmaster and a few other brands, so i figured its quality would be close to the others in many... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars its got problems, July 24, 2011

This review is from: Pacific Cycle Men's Oceanside Bicycle (Charcoal & Red) (Sports)
many cheap components, such as; 1.VERY soft tires even fully inflated they bow severely 2. the rims are aluminum and the FIRST time I took this on a paved bike path and caught a small pothole they warped horribly to where they cant be saved 3. coaster brake barely works 4. seat is mostly plastic and soft metal and even using a ratchet wont stay put 5. pedals are totally plastic and have begun to crack.
So not worth the money and now have to do some costly repairs and no way to get a refund of new parts from the manufacturer AWESOME!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great bike considering the price, March 19, 2012
This review is from: Pacific Cycle Men's Oceanside Bicycle (Charcoal & Red) (Sports)
My girlfriend bought this for me as a "ride to the beach and not worry if your bike gets stolen" bike. I think I spent almost as much on the surfboard rack.

You get what you pay for. I'm not sure what people were expecting for an adult bike that costs $140 bucks delivered. I ride quite a bit - this is a good (not great) price for a entry level beach cruiser ...and the ride geometry and styling are very good.

This isn't a bike made to withstand abuse. (Having no other transportation other than a bike during my college days, it is especially not a good bike for a college campus.) Don't expect to stand up and mash your way to any speed records, either.

What this bike is good for: short trips to the beach, the market, or to visit your neighbor.

I had no problems inflating the tires, the brakes work, and the bike arrived in great condition. I mounted my surfboard rack and ride it almost daily to the beach in good weather. I did replace the... Read more
